By: Courtney My niece is turning into a pretty serious soccer player. Her team travels to games throughout the season, and I know it boosts her confidence to have her fan club on the sidelines. I do my best to get to a few of her games a season. But because aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents, friends and other fans of amateur athletics can’t always make it to every kick-off, getting the play-by-play from afar can be the next best thing. Our newest client, Eyeball, makes it easy to get real-time scores, photos and messages via iPhone or Android app. Founded by mobile explorers, startup ninjas and sports fans, Eyeball lets you get live commentary, scoreboards, messages and more from other fans in attendance at all kinds of amateur sports events. You just create an account via Facebook or Twitter, invite and follow your fellow fans, and then share and view content during games and matches. It’s also an online community for coaches and players of amateur sports, who can communicate, engage, manage and celebrate at any time and from any place. Via the app, users can update the community on everything from game or practice time changes, the hotels nearest to a tournament, which team is winning a game, and even who scored the big goal. I try to be on the sidelines when my niece is tending goal, playing defense or holding the midfield. Sometimes I can't make it. Mobile, social technology makes missing the game a little bit easier on fans and athletes alike, and the Metis team is looking forward to helping Eyeball broaden its reach to more amateur sports fans.
