By Katie I am organizing a Metis kickball team, and I couldn't be more excited. Do you want to know why?
My first reason is two-pronged.Metis is “work hard, play hard.” We love a good time. There, I said it. We relish in our Thirsty Thursday moments. The excitement that builds up to our monthly potluck is palpable. Our team works well together because we know each other so well, and this is important to our success. Metis is seriously competitive. It's kind of scary. We will support each other until the end, but you can smell the fear when we divide up on teams for something. This works to our advantage professionally.
Organizing fun things is fun. I mean, for more than 40 hours a week, we are planning press tours, content calendars and social media strategies. We love it, but it's great to free our minds a bit and focus on something social and, well, fun. For the past two weeks, we've let loose for a couple of minutes a day, nominating team captains (yours truly), coming up with team names and writing team theme songs.
New environments equal new ideas. Working together outside of the office opens the brain up to new and different ideas that can benefit our team in and out of the office. Having fun socially, taking breaks and connecting with others is proven to increase productivity and can promote creativity.
Say it with us now: networking! Boston is full of young professionals looking to network, have fun and meet other young professionals.
How do you keep your company active – professionally, creatively, socially, and otherwise?
